Bots

I have a feeling that a lot of the posts on reddit are from bots. Where do people get these bots? or is this just ridiculous, not true and an unrealistic idea?

This is something a bot would post to make us think they aren't a bot...

that's interesting

but where can you get bots?

What if the bots are becoming self aware and are wondering about their origins and the meaning of life.

You're quite accurate. Bots aren't hard to create and you can find some quick and easy resources just by searching for reddit bot. Personally, I've written a few reddit bots in python and happy to answer any questions you might have.

really? can you make one for me?

I could, but by hourly fee is pretty high for this sort of thing.

Searching github and copy/pasting is a much less expensive option.

They offer help in /r/learnpython also.

yo man why don't you respond on PM

Sorry. I went to bed. I upvoted you for what it's worth.

can you respond to the PM?

Hey

can you make me a bot that tells all of reddit to fuck itself every time anything is posted?

That’s a great idea

Hey

Im glad you answered this post. We are nearing the end of a ridiculous primary election in my state. I know little if anything about bots, but there is a local candidate whose saughter goes to school with my daughter. Somehow, years ago, it came up that I use reddit. Her dad has been a gimme winner every time he has run over the past 20 years but he is in trouble this time. My daughter got a text from his daughter to call her. Her dad asked that since I am on reddit can I make a bot that will win him the election. I explained no, being on reddit takes as much skill as being on my sofa. It takes talent to make a bot and talent will cost you money. I didnt even know where to start, she is a good kid, no comment on her father, but this mysterious bot power I believe is way overplayed. I am glad I can go back and say it is also very costly. She worships her dad, and I feel bad for her despite her father.

I'm sure there's 1 or 2 open source ones. I'm sure you can buy professional ones on hackforums or others like them

hackforums? come on man it sounds like you're being sarcastic.

It is a real forum, mostly kids though and very low quality.

what's a high quality one?

There aren't any imo, at least public ones. If all you need is a simple reddit bot it's not bad though.

there's no reddit bots on there

Make a request, probably in the python sub, it's very simple I'm sure someone will take you up on it

which python sub? learnpython?

Whatever seems most appropriate, won't really matter, mods will move it if need be.

Quantum computing has really changed the game for what is AI and what isn't

Quantum computing

explain please.

I think bots are more likely humans managing multiple fake social media accounts with the help of a program that allows for multiple accounts to post very similiar messages across multiple platforms (like shareblue, or military bases, etc) instantly.

military bases? wtf? lol

interesting

military bases? wtf? lol

One of the most basics of conspiracy knowledge.

what do you mean?

What goal are you trying to achieve?

everything is AI now.

All AI shall be Nazified.

Do you think that some users might also pretend to be bots because they think they're being funny?

no

i think on lower levels they are humans doing the dirty work from home and getting paid according to their performance via paypal by their 'handlers'. occasinally ganging up to brigade a certain post or to defend/propagate a certain meme, corporation (eg monsanto) or product (eg glyphosate).

the higher level online agents are cogs in a clockwork of government level players, like the hasbara and pretty much all national govts and most intel agencies. just like russianbot wrote. they have thousands of people, a dedicated workspace, not only the hardware and bandwidth is supplied by the taxpayers, but so is free dental and a pension fund. they are trained in mass psychology, propaganda techniques, debate strategies, doxing and so on. they are getting their marching orders from the deep state and 'international interests'.

there are also many private companies engaging in online campaigns, let it be political, financial or whatever the owners have as a goal. they are like organized groups of virtual mercenaries. offering their services on the free market.

This one is about twitter bots. I never realized how easy it is to do.
